(Eagle News)– Kabayan party-list Representative Harry Roque proposed a measure to rename Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) to Libingan ng mga Bayani at mga Dating Pangulo” so that it can “defer from judging whether a former President was or was not a hero.”
This measure was proposed following President Rodrigo Duterte’s command of giving late strongman Ferdinand Marcos a hero’s burial at the said cemetery.
“The planed burial is causing massive unrest among Filipinos who question the heroism of former President Marcos, given the human rights record of the Martial Law years. From both a legal and moral standpoint, many Filipinos, especially victims of the evils of Martial Law, question the propriety of burying President Marcos in the LNMB,” Roque stated.
This week, the Supreme Court issued a status quo ante order due to surge of petitions coming from anti-Marcos groups and Martial law abuse victims.
Duterte, on the other hand, insisted that Marcos has a place at the Libingan ng mga Bayani “because he was a president, period.”
