(Eagle News)—Incumbent and incoming senators will meet “probably” next week to discuss the issue of chairmanships of committees, with the winning candidates in the May 13 elections expected to be part of the Upper Chamber in June.
Senate President Tito Sotto made the revelation in a radio interview on Wednesday, May 29, after he confirmed some returning and incoming new senators want the chairmanships of committees already held by incumbent senators.
In a radio interview, Sotto said to resolve the looming conflict, they would explain to the incoming senators the equity of the incumbent rule being practised in the Senate.
Under the rule, the incumbent senators will retain the chairmanships unless they voluntarily let go of them.
“Kung tatlo kayong kursunada ‘yung isang committee, mag-usap na kayong tatlo, ‘di ba? Kapag hindi kayo magkasundo-sundo, kami ang magdedesisyon, magbobotohan kami,” he added.
Earlier, Senator Panfilo Lacson said he would yield the chairmanship of the committee on public order and dangerous drugs to Senator-elect Ronald dela Rosa, a former Philippine National Police chief.
