Updated: SW monsoon affecting western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao

LPA spotted over coastal waters of Romblon

(Eagle News) –The country’s weather bureau said that the southwest monsoon continue to affect the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, in a bulletin released Thursday morning, Oct. 8.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration also noted a low pressure area (LPA) situated over the coastal waters of Concepcion, Romblon or 90 km East Northeast of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, in a bulletin released at 10 a.m.

“In the next 24 hours, this weather disturbance and the Southwest Monsoon will bring moderate to heavy rains over Southern Quezon, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Marinduque, Romblon, Mindoro Provinces, the northern portion of Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes,” it said.

“Light to moderate with at times heavy rains will also be experienced over Metro Manila, Visayas, Rizal, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and the rest of Bicol Region, Quezon and Palawan,” the PAGASA bulletin said.

The Low Pressure Area is less likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, it said.

In Mindanao, a yellow rainfall warning is raised over Surigao del Norte (Siargao Islands, Socorro Islands), which means flooding is possible especially in low lying areas and along river channels.

Landslides in mountainous areas are also possible.

Moderate to heavy rains are being experienced over Surigao del Norte (other portion), Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Agusan del Norte, and may affect nearby areas.

Moderate to strong winds will prevail over these areas, and in Palawaan including the Kalayaan Group of Islands and Occidental Mindoro, which will have moderate to  rough seas.

Light to moderate winds, on the other hand, will prevail over Visayas.
