(Eagle News) – Typhoon “Gorio” has left the country, but a new weather disturbance, tropical storm “Huaning” (international name Haitang) has taken its place.
Storm “Huaning” entered the country Sunday morning with maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 110 kph, and could trigger possible flashfloods and landslides, according to the country’s weather bureau PAGASA.
It will be bringing in moderate to heavy rains within 500 kilometers of its diameter, and continue to enhance the southwest monsoon. This will bring more rains over the western section of northern and central Luzon, PAGASA said.
As of 4 p.m., the center of tropical Storm “Huaning” was estimated based on all available data at 185 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes (21.6°N 120.7°E). It is forecast to move North at 24 km/h.
Storm signal number 1 is now hoisted over Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra and Northwestern Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands.
Rains with gusty winds
Forecasters said rains with gusty winds will prevail over Ilocos Norte, Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.
“Monsoon rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides is expected over Cordillera, the rest of Ilocos region and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan.”
“Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over the rest of Central Luzon and of Cagayan Valley,” PAGASA said.
In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorm will prevail.
“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over rest of Luzon and Western section of Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough,” it said.
PAGASA also warned that sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, and the western seaboard of Central Luzon.
