(Eagle News) — Typhoon Soudelor, considered as the strongest storm in the world this year, is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and will be called “Hanna” once it enters the country tomorrow.
With maximum sustained winds of 210 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 245 kilometers per hour, Soudelor is considered a supertyphoon.
The country’s weather bureau. PAGASA, said Soudelor could even be stronger than typhoon Ruby which had winds of 215 kph last December.
Based on PAGASA’s updated tropical cyclone classification system, a super typhoon has maximum sustained winds exceeding 220 kilometers per hour.
As of 4:00 AM today, the eye of typhoon “Soudelor” (International Name) is still outside the country. It was located based on all available data at 1,995 KM East of Luzon (18.0°N, 140.5°E). It is forecast to move west northwest at 20 kph.
By this afternoon, it is expected to be at 1810 km East of Cagayan. By Wednesday afternoon, it will be at 1255 East of Batanes and inside PAR. By Thursday afternoon, it is expected to be at 810 km East Northeast of Batanes and at 530 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes by Friday afternoon.
By Saturday afternoon, it will be at 700 km North Northwest of Batanes and already outside the PAR, PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to affect Palawan and Mindanao.
