KABUL, Afghanistan (CCTV) — Four people were killed and several others wounded as a suicide bomber blew himself up near a bank not far from the U.S. Embassy in Kabul on Tuesday.
The suicide bombing was confirmed by Najib Danish, a spokesman with Afghanistan’s interior ministry.
The blast went off outside a bank in Microrayani-eDuwum locality in the 9th Police District of the Afghan capital. The location is some 200 meters from the U.S. Embassy, according to hospital sources.
No group has claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
Security personnel have cordoned off the blast area for precautionary measures after several police vehicles and ambulances rushed to the scene.
One hour after the explosion, medical workers from local hospitals were still at the scene helping the wounded.
Across the street from the bank where the explosion went off, some shops got damaged by the impact, with shattered glasses littering on the ground.
A local resident recalled the suicide attack.
“First, we heard some gun shots, and then a huge bang. We knew instantly that it was a suicide bombing. Smoke and dust was all over the place, and then we saw ambulances arriving,” said the witness.
On Friday last week, a terrorist attack by an Islamic State (IS) group on a Kabul mosque killed more than 40 people and wounded over 100 others.
