(Eagle News) — Malacanang said that the Sultan of Oman has issued a “royal pardon” to two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) convicted for criminal offenses.
The Palace said President Aquino himself thanked His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman, for issuing the royal pardon to two OFWs whom Malacanang did not name.
“Nagpapasalamat po ang ating Pangulo at pamahalaan kay Sultan of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, sa kanyang pagbibigay po ng royal pardon kasabay ng komemorasyon ng Eid’l Fitr Al-Mubarak na sumunod po doon sa obserbasyon ng banal na panahon ng Ramadan,” said Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr., in a radio interview with dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.
Prisoners convicted of different cases were released in commemoration of Eid Al Fitr Al Mubarak for the year 1436 Hijra and The Glorious Renaissance Day of July 23.
“(Ayon po kay) Ambassador Narciso Castañeda, nakikipag-ugnayan ang ating pamahalaan sa mga awtoridad sa Oman para sa maagang pagbabalik sa bansa ng dalawa nating kababayan na biniyayaan ng nasabing Royal Pardon,” Coloma added. (with a PND report)
