(Eagle News)–Three out of five Filipinos support the national ID system, a recent Social Weather Stations survey showed.
According to the survey conducted from June 27 to 30, 73 percent say the system, which was enacted into law on Aug. 6, will be a big help to them.
Net approval was highest in Metro Manila at an extremely strong +60 rating, followed by Balance Luzon at astrong+58, Visayas at an extremely strong+53 and Mindanao at a very strong +48.
Net approval was extremely strongin both urban and rural areas, at +58 and +53, respectively, the SWS said.
Only 18 percent disapproved of the national ID system, and 9 percent did not know much about it for them to give an opinion.
Sixty-one percent of Filipinos said they trust the government to protect information contained in the ID, while 8 percent disagreed.
Three out of 10 Filipinos were undecided on the matter.
Forty-nine percent of Filipinos also said they have much trust the government will not use the national ID against its opponents, while 39% are undecided, and 13% have little trust.
