SWS: More Filipinos believe their families are safer now

(Eagle News) — More than half of Filipinos said their families were safer now than six months ago, a Social Weather Stations survey said.

The survey–conducted from December 8 to 16— found that the 57% of Filipino adults nationwide who said the safety of their family was better now increased by 7 points since September.

Almost 40%–36 % to be exact—said the safety of their family now was  the same as before, while 6% said it was worse now.

The proportion of those who said their family was safer now increased across all socio-demographics.

The SWS said it rose by 11 points in Visayas, from 48% in September 2017.

It rose by 10 points in Metro Manila, from 53% in September; by 7 points in Mindanao, from 64% in September; and by 4 points in Balance Luzon, from 43% in September.

By locale, the proportion rose by 9 points among urban dwellers, from 53% in September; and by 6 points among rural dwellers, from 47% in September.

By class, the SWS said the proportion rose by 12 points among class E, from 40% in September; by 6 points among class D, from 52% in September; and by 2 points among classes ABC, from 49% in September.

The proportion of those who feel their families are safer also rose by 10 points among women, from 48% in September; and by 4 points among men, from 52% in September.

More 35-44 year olds also feel they are safer, 15 points up from the 46% who felt their families were safe in September.

The proportion also rose by 8 points among 45-54 year olds, from 45% in September; by 6 points among 25-34 year olds, from 50% in September; by 5 points 18-24 year olds, from 56% in September; and by 2 points among 55 years old and up, from 55% in September.

By education, the proportion of those who feel safer increased by 12 points among non-elementary graduates, from 49% in September; by 9 points among elementary graduates, from 46% in September; by 5 points among high school graduates, from 53% in September; and by 2 points among college graduates, from 54% in September.

The survey used face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide: 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Sampling error margins were pegged at  ±2.5% for national percentages, and ±6% each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
