(Eagle News)– One out of three Filipino families have escaped poverty, the latest Social Weather Stations survey said.
According to the pollster’s Fourth Quarter 2017 poll done on December 8-16, 2017, 31% who transitioned out of poverty consists of 7% who used to be poor five or more years ago (“usually non-poor”), and 14% who used to be poor 1 to 4 years ago (“newly non-poor”).
According to the SWS, the figure for December 2017 is “the highest rate of newly non-poor families since the 13.8% recorded when the question was first surveyed in December 2014.”
The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide: 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Sampling error margins were pegged at ±2.5% for national percentages, and ±6% each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
