Taal, Batangas residents evacuated with the help of SCAN Int’l as Taal volcano continues unrest
(Eagle News) — Residents of Taal, Batangas are evacuated on Monday morning, January 13, with the help of volunteers of the SCAN International, a volunteer group of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) as nearby Taal volcano continues to exhibit intensified volcanic activity.
SCAN Int’l is a volunteer group which has this motto, “Saving Lives is Our Priority.”
It also conducts seminars on disaster preparedness and trains people for the emergency response task, and has volunteers not just in the Philippines, but all over the world.
The Philippine Institute of Volcano and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has reiterated the need for total evacuation of the whole Taal volcano island, as well as the high-risk areas within the 14-kilometer radius from the Taal Main Crater.”
It advised areas in Luzon, particularly in the general north, “to guard against the effects of heavy and prolonged ashfall.”
