(Eagle News) — The mayor of Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat has died due to COVID-19.
The Tacurong local government said Mayor Angelo Ortizo Montilla succumbed to the disease on Sunday, June 6, at 9:30 p.m.
He was 62.
A statement from the local government said the mayor had continued to physically report to work amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
He was brought to a hospital in General Santos City after testing positive for COVID-19.
“Mayor Roncal will be remembered as a tireless leader who sacrificed his life in the name of public service,” the statement said.
Vice Mayor Lino Montilla, the late mayor’s brother, will take the helm of the city government.
