A STRONG cold air brought a rare snowfall to high mountain areas in China’s Taiwan Province Saturday evening, attracting a large number of visitors to enjoy the beautiful winter scenery.

With abundant moisture and continued dropping temperatures at night, the peaks of Taipei’s Yangming and Taiping mountains have been in the grip of snow, packed with strong winds.

Many visitors have seen snow for the first time.

“I’m very excited. And this is the first time I’ve visited here since I was born. I feel it’s very nice,” said a local resident.

For the safety of drivers and motorists, the Yangming mountain National Park Administration set several checkpoints on the Yangjin Highway at night to restrict the number of vehicles from entering the mountain areas.

But the cold weather did not discourage people from enjoying the snow. In Taoyuan, many families went out to play in snow, building snowmen and having snowball fights. Some even brought their pets out to enjoy the rare weather together.

Local meteorological department has urged people to plan their outing well, install snow chains on car tires and take care to stay warm.  (Courtesy China Central Television)
