(Eagle News) – Tropical depression “Josie” is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but the country will continue to experience scattered to widespread monsoon rains.
As of 7 a.m. on Monday, July 23, “Josie” was estimated to be 585 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes which is already outside the country.
With maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph, it is moving north at 20 kph.
But forecasters at PAGASA, the country’s weather bureau, said that they are monitoring another low pressure area (LPA) which may develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 to 48 hours.
The LPA was estimated to be 1,495 kilometers east of Central Luzon as of 7 a.m. Monday.
Monsoon rains however will still be experienced over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas. According to PAGASA.
Meanwhile, there will only be occasional rains today over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and the Visayas.
“Residents of these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and in mountainous areas, are still advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslide,” PAGASA said in its latest advisory on Monday.
