TOKYO, Japan (Eagle News) — Tokyo, Japan played host to Japan Amateur Radio League (JARL) HAM FAIR 2019 where officers and members of the Philippine Amateur Radio Associations (PARA) recently gathered for a series of seminars and activities.
Members of the SCAN International — an organization of the Iglesia Ni Cristo for amateur radio communicators and volunteers who assists people in times of calamities and in dire need — were among the participants of the event held on August 31.
SCAN members in Japan from various locations flew to Tokyo to take part in this rare gathering as SCAN officers provided a warm reception to various delegates from other countries.
The objectives of the event include providing reception for the members of PARA, including giving them updates and information about the amateur radio operator networks worldwide. Aside from this, SCAN is also inviting other interested members to take part and join in their activities, according to Brother Naoki Kobayashi, SCAN Tokyo, Japan Chapter officer in an email interview with Eagle News.
Kobayashi attended and hosted the event with another Japanese SCAN Officer, Bro. Makoto Hanawa.
Kobayashi said he was truly impressed with the event and the objectives of the organization. He said radio communication is very useful particularly in times of disasters. He is also invited to a similar event next year where he will get some advice on how to promote the organization.
SCAN International conducts training and seminars on disaster preparedness, among other related fields. It was created by Iglesia ni Cristo Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo.
