A ranking member of the cabinet of United States President Barack Obama is set to visit the Philippines this week. United States Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, will visit the country to strengthen the economic ties between the two nations.
Part of Secretary Pritzker’s itinerary includes meetings with President Benigno Aquino III, Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima and other key Philippine government officials, according to information from the US embassy in Manila.
Pritzker is also scheduled to deliver remarks on the US economic engagement in the Asia Pacific on Wednesday, June 4, at Ballroom 3 of the New World Hotel in Makati City.
The US Embassy said the visit of the US Secretary of Commerce reaffirms Washington’s commitment to the Philippines and the entire Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, specifically with respect to the two countries’ economic and commercial ties.
Pritzker has been serving US President Barack Obama’s administration for the past two years as a member of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board which formulated and evaluated economic policy.
