Total COVID-19 worldwide surpass 10 million as global virus deaths top 500,000

(Eagle News) – The total number of COVID-19 cases worldwide has surpassed 10 million while deaths were now more than half a million as virus cases continued to increase in almost all countries affected by the pandemic.

Based on the data of the Johns Hopkins University as of Monday, June 29, 7:33 a.m., (Philippine time) global COVID-19 cases reached 10,104,045 while COVID deaths reached 500,882.

The United States still leads countries with the most virus cases at more than 2.5 million. It is also the country with the most COVID-19 deaths at 125,768.

Many countries have already emerged from strict lockdown measures as they try to turn economic engines running again.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the effects of the pandemic will be felt for many years to come.

As of Monday, June 29, the following are the top 15 countries with the most COVID-19 cases (based on John Hopkins University collated data):
1. US – 2,544,418 cases
2. Brazil – 1,344,143 cases
3. Russia – 633,563 cases
4. India – 528,859 cases
5. United Kingdom – 312,640 cases
6. Peru – 279,419 cases
7. Chile – 271,982 cases
8. Spain – 248,770 cases
9. Italy – 240,310 cases
10. Iran – 222,669 cases
11. Mexico – 212,802 cases
12. Pakistan – 202,955 cases
13. France – 199,474 cases
14. Turkey – 197,239 cases
15. Germany – 194,693 cases

Meanwhile, here are the top 15 countries with the most COVID-19 deaths:
1. US – 125,768 deaths
2. Brazil – 57,622 deaths
3. United Kingdom – 43,634 deaths
4. Italy – 34,738 deaths
5. France – 29,781 deaths
6. Spain – 28,343 deaths
