(Eagle News)–Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday, Sept. 13, revealed the names of the lawyers who would represent him in legal proceedings stemming from the issuance of Proclamation No. 572.
Trillanes said his lawyers are former University of the Philippines College of Law Dean Pacifico Agabin, law professor Joselito Chan, former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay, and the senator’s chief legal counsel Reynaldo Robles.
He called them “the best legal minds in the country who are willing to stand by the rule of law.”
“They believe that if this illegal act would not be corrected, our country’s democracy would be in peril,” he said.
“I put my trust in our courts that they will correct this executive overreach and adhere to the rule of law despite Duterte’s twisting of laws just to achieve his aim of silencing his critics,” he added.
The proclamation declared the amnesty granted to Trillanes for the Oakwood mutiny and Peninsula Manila siege in 2003 and 2007 respectively as void ab initio, citing Trillanes’ alleged failure to file an official form to apply for the same and a certification from the military that said there was no available copy of the application in the first place.
It also cited Trillanes’ alleged failure to make an express admission of guilt.
Trillanes tried to secure reprieve from the Supreme Court but failed.
