Troops foil bomb attack in Zamboanga

(Eagle News)– Military personnel on Monday thwarted a bombing by a local terrorist group (LTG) in Zamboanga City after receiving intelligence reports.

Soldiers from the 51st Infantry Batallion under the 1st Infantry Division curbed a van boarded by eight LTG members. Three of them were females.

The authorities recovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other arms from the van. These include two hand grenades, two caliber .45 pistols with ammunition, one 81-millimeter mortar ammunition geared as an improvised explosive, two pipe bombs with component, electronic devices and triggering devices.

The group had intended to plant the explosives in heavily populated areas, the Western Mindanao Command said in a press release.

The suspects and confiscated materials were turned over to the Lumbayanague Municipal Police Station.
