Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 up over Batanes as TD Egay accelerates over PHL Sea

(Eagle News) – Tropical cyclone warning signal number 1 has been raised over Batanes as Tropical Depression “Egay” further accelerated while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea.

As of 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, Egay’s center was estimated based on all available data at 405 kilometers east Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora or 425 km East of Aparri, Cagayan (17.8 °N, 125.6 °E ).

It is moving northwest at 35 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

On Monday, July 1, light to moderate with at times heavy monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Antique, Aklan, and western Iloilo brought by the Southwest Monsoon.

Residents in these areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at high risk of flooding and landslides, are advised to take precautionary measure, PAGASA said.

“Moderate to rough seas may prevail over the western seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon in the next 24 hours. Those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to these areas,” it added in its advisory.

By Monday evening, July 1, tropical depression Egay is estimated to be 40 km West of Basco, Batanes(20.4°N, 121.6°E)
