(Eagle News)– Tropical Depression “Henry” has intensified slightly as it moved closer to northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Monday, July 16.
In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said that as of 4 p.m., the center of “Henry” was located 180 kilometers east southeast of Calayan, Cagayan.
The tropical depression is packing maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kilometers per hour, PAGASA said.
According to PAGASA, “Henry” is moving west at 35 kilometers per hour, and is expected to traverse the Babuyan Islands on Monday night.
Signal Number 1 has been hoisted over Batanes, the northern portion of Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands, the northern portion of Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte, which means occasional rains with gusty winds are expected over those areas.
The southwest monsoon will also bring monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro Provinces, Palawan and Western Visayas, and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over the rest of the country, PAGASA said.
“Residents of these areas, especially those living in low-lying and mountainous areas, are advised to continue monitoring for updates, coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides,” the weather agency said.
