Tropical Storm “Sarah” maintains strength as it slightly accelerates

(Eagle News)–Tropical Storm “Sarah” has maintained its strength as it slightly accelerated.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Batanes and the northeastern portion of Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, particularly Gattaran, Lal-lo, Buguey, Gonzaga, Sta. Ana, Calayan are under Signal No. 1 as “Sarah,” estimated 540 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, packed maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

“Sarah” is moving north northwest at 30 kph.

Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are expected over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains, on the other hand, are forecast over Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Isabela, La Union, Benguet and the rest of Ilocos Norte.

Sea travel is risky, especially for small sea craft, over the seaboards of areas under storm signals, seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the western seaboard of Southern Luzon due to prevailing or forecast rough sea conditions caused by  “Sarah” and the northeast monsoon.
