(Eagle News) — Tropical Storm “Urduja” continues to move westward as it prepares to make landfall in the Northern-Eastern Samar area either this afternoon or evening.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration said as of 7 a.m., the center of the tropical storm was estimated at 125 kilometers east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
“Urduja” is packing maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 95 kilometers per hour, as it is forecast to move westward at 10 kilometers per hour.
Signal No. 2 has been hoisted over Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate including Burias, Ticao Islands, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte.
Southern Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Northern Negros Oriental, Cebu, Northern Bohol, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, on the other hand,are under Signal No. 1.
Signal No. 1 could also be raised over the Mindoro Provinces, Batangas, Cuyo Islands, and Calamian Group of Islands within 3 hours.
PAGASA said scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will continue over Bicol Region and Visayas and are expected to prevail over Southern Quezon, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque and Romblon.
“Residents of these areas must undertake appropriate measures against flooding and landslides and coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices,” PAGASA said.
It added sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of these areas under a tropical cyclone warning signal.
