Tugade: Xiamen Air should pay for cost of “lost opportunities” from NAIA mishap, too

(Eagle News)—-Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade on Wednesday, Aug. 29, said Xiamen Air should also pay for the cost of opportunities lost after one of its airplanes skidded off a Ninoy Aquino International Airport runway, prompting flight cancellations.

“Ang amin hong posisyon hindi lang ang danyos na aktuwal, kailangan kagaya po ng sabi ni Madam chair (Senator Grace Poe) isama ang lost opportunities,”  Tugade said in a hearing by the Senate committee on transportation and public services.

Xiamen Air has vowed to pay for the cost of aircraft handling and runway recovery.

Earlier, Manila International Airport Authority  general manager Ed Monreal  said that Xiamen Air may have to pay at least P15 million.

Om Aug. 16, Xiamen Air flight MF8667 skidded off Runway 06/24.

Runway 06/24 had to be closed for 36 hours as clearing operations continued.
