(Eagle News) — Two Filipinos were killed and three others were injured in a train and car accident in New Zealand on Wednesday, June 19.
Ambassador to New Zealand Jesus Domingo did not reveal the identities of the dead and those injured in the incident in the Bay of Plenty along Pongakawa School Road near Te Puke town, but told Eagle News New Zealand bureau that they were carpenters who had just arrived in the country on June 5.
Domingo said this was their third day at work.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Wellington, is closely monitoring the aftermath of a train and car accident in New Zealand this morning where five Filipinos were involved,” the DFA said in a statement.
It added the embassy “stands ready to provide the necessary assistance to the Filipinos and their families.” Greg Besa, New Zealand Bureau, Eagle News Service
