Zamboanga City (PNA) —-The military have launched pursuit operations against a group of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands who killed two soldiers in an ambush early Tuesday in the province of Sulu.
Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, said the ambush took place at 8:10 a.m.in Sitio Tibongbong, Barangay Igasan, Patikul.
Arrojado did not release the identities of the slain soldiers pending notification of their deaths to the nearest kin.
He said, however, that they were intelligence operatives of the Army’s 10th Infantry Battalion (IB).
According to Arrojado, the victims were on board a motorcycle traversing the municipal service road when the ASG brigands led by sub-leader Moradil Mudjahirin ambushed them.
He said at that time, the victims had been returning to the 10th IB headquarters from a meeting in Barangay Taglibi.
The victims were dead on the spot.
Arrojado said other units have also been alerted in case the troops pursuing Mudjahirin need reinforcement.
