Typhoon Ruby to hit land five times – DOST

Typhoon Ruby is expected to make five landfalls as it cuts across the country in the next days.

DOST Secretary Mario Montejo said that Ruby will first hit land in Borongan, Samar between 2AM and 4AM on Sunday, affecting most of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar.

The next landfall is expected between 2PM to 4PM in Masbate, and the third between 8PM and 10PM in in Sibuyan Island.

On Monday, Ruby is expected to pass through Romblon between 2AM to 4AM.

The fifth landfall will be at Mindoro, at anytime between 11AM and 1PM.  It is expected to affect Occidental and Oriental Mindoro before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

At 4PM today, the eye of the storm was spotted 100km east of Dolores, Eastern Samar or at 195km east of Catarman, Northern Samar with maximum sustained winds of 175kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210kph.

Typhoon Ruby is expected to be at 50km east of Romblon, Romblon by tomorrow afternoon.  By Monday, it is expected to be at 255km west northwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, and 480km west of Iba, Zambales Tuesday afternoon.
