Uberpool launched in the Philippines

App-based ride-hailing service Uber on Wednesday launched its carpool version, Uberpool with the intention to ease traffic in Metro Manila by taking more cars off the road.

Uber Philippines general manager Laurence Cua during Uberpool’s soft launch said that the service can accommodate up to three passengers who happen to ride along a similar route at the same time thus sharing fare.

Uberpool is also 25 percent cheaper than its cheapest service UberX, whether passengers pair up or not.

Uber drivers are required to issue electronic receipts.

He said that through Uberpool passengers can save money, drivers can save gasoline and in the long run, more cars will be off the road.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Atty. Winston Ginez welcomed Uber’s latest service which he said is proven very helpful in over 300 cities around the world.   He meanwhile assured that service will not be a threat to public utility vehicles (PUVs) such as Taxis and Uv Express Services.

Uberpool is initially available in the Metro Manila. (Eagle News)
