Associate Justice Teresita de Castro

(Eagle News) — Supreme Court Associate Justice Teresita de Castro did not attend the resumption of hearings on the impeachment complaint against SC Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Monday.

But Rep. Rey Umali, chair of the House justice panel hearing the complaint, said she expressed willingness to attend the same should the SC en banc give her the approval to do this.

Umali said apart from De Castro, Associate Justice Noel Tijam, SC spokesperson Theodore Te, among others, have asked the permission of the en banc.

He made the assurance the time of resource speakers would not be “wasted,” as they would be given a specific time slot to make the appearance.

Larry Gadon, who filed the impeachment complaint against Sereno, said she committed 27 offenses that were tantamount to culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, corruption and other high crimes.
