QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile volunteered to be part of the prosecution team in the expected impeachment trial against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
“He volunteered and he told us that he is very much willing to share his institutional memory in the prosecution of [Sereno],” said Umali.
House Committee on Justice Chairman Reynaldo Umali said that Enrile wanted to share his knowledge about the prosecution process.
“There are no strings to his volunteering his services. He wants to do it for the sake of the nation. I salute him for being a patriot,” Umali said.
The former senator served as Senate president and therefore presiding judge during the impeachment trial of then late Chief Justice Renato Corona.
On March 8, the House Justice Committee found probable cause in Sereno’s impeachment complaint.
