UN agency: Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes show Pacific Ring of Fire is active

(Eagle News) — The recent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions show that the Pacific Ring of Fire is active.

This is according to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) .

The UNISDR noted in particular  the activities of the Mayon volcano, the sudden eruption of a volcano in Japan, and earthquakes in Java, Indonesia and the Alaskan coast.

The Ring of Fire lies in the basin of the Pacific Ocean and is also known as the Circum-Pacific belt.
