MANILA, Sept. 19 (PNA) — Metro Manila and nearby provinces are still under the red rainfall warning, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in 9 a.m. Friday update.
In its advisory, PAGASA said that heavy to torrential rains is affecting Metro Manila, Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan.
The agency said severe flooding is expected in these areas and has advised residents to take precautionary measures.
PAGASA said the red rainfall warning, the highest in its three-stage rainfall warning system, is due to the combined effects of southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Mario.
Under red rainfall advisory is issued when downpours constitute an emergency. This is raised when observed rainfall is more than 30 mm within one hour or if rainfall has continued for the past three hours and is more than 65 mm.
PAGASA said the orange rainfall warning was raised in Zambales.
The orange rainfall advisory, the second in its three-stage rainfall warning system is raised in areas where rainfall is between 15 mm and 30 mm within one hour. Flooding is a definite threat in communities under the orange alert.
The weather agency added that yellow rainfall warning is still up in Bataan, Cavite, Batangas and Quezon provinces.
PAGASA also issued yellow warning in Aklan, Iloilo, Antique and Capiz provinces.
Under the heavy rainfall warning system, a yellow rainfall advisory is raised when the expected rainfall amount is between 7.5 mm and 15 mm within one hour and likely to continue.
Communities given this advisory are advised to be aware of the weather condition and warned that flooding may be possible in low-lying areas.
