(Eagle News) — Tropical Depression “Urduja” continues to maintain its strength as it prepares to make landfall over Palawan.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said as of 4:00 a.m. today, the center of the tropical depression was located 195 kilometers east northeast of Puerto Princesa City.
“Urduja” is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kilometers per hour.
It is forecast to move west at 18 kilometers per hour.
Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Palawan.
PAGASA said scattered rains will continue over northern Palawan including the Calamian Group of Islands.
“Residents of these areas must undertake appropriate measures against flooding and landslides and coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices,” PAGASA said.
Sea travel is also not advised over the seaboards of Palawan.
“Urduja” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Tuesday morning and afternoon, PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, the tropical depression monitored outside PAR was seen 1,650 kilometers east of Mindanao, packing maximum sustained winds of 40 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 50 kilometers per hour.
