(Eagle News) — United States ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim has clarified that the US Central Intelligence Agency has no plans of removing President Rodrigo Duterte from office or overthrowing his administration.
“President Duterte won a very impressive election. We respect his election and we are in fact working very well together with his administration,” he said.
Kim was reacting to what President Duterte said last week.
“They say that the CIA wanted me out of the government. I believe so but not really killing but they could have – they would have prepared another one,” he had said.
According to Kim, the US respects President Duterte’s impressive win in the 2016 elections and is working with his administration doing everything possible to strengthen the special military partnership between the two countries.
He said that the US remains firm in maintaining its good relations with the Philippines.
“Our close bonds are reinforced by the more than four million Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in the United States who are helping to shape the political and economic future of both countries,” Kim said.
