The virus was found in fetal and newborn tissues of babies with microcephaly in Brazil.
Microcephaly is a neurological disorder that can cause babies to be born with abnormally small heads, which leads to severe developmental issues and sometimes death.
There is no vaccine to block the Zika virus and no medicine to treat it.
It’s transmitted primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito.
About one in five people infected with Zika virus will develop symptoms, which include fever, rash, joint pain, and pink eye.
