(Eagle News) — United States Republican Senator Marco Rubio confirmed meeting with Senator Antonio Trillanes IV in the United States.

In a Twitter post, Rubio, who earlier criticized the Duterte administration’s drug war, said the meeting was to “discuss the US-Philippine alliance, combating corruption, and protecting human rights amid their narcotics crisis.”

In a press conference, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said he only hoped “the correct information was given.”

“…and not biased information designed to adversely affect US-Philippines relations,” Abella said.

He said the Palace was also “not privy” about whether or not Trillanes indeed went to the US to ask some to convince US President Donald Trump not to come to the Philippines in November.

Trump is expected to attend the  31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit and Related Summits to be hosted by the country.
