In the run-up to the 2018 Oscars, a British artist briefly puts on display a statue of Harvey Weinstein, in a bathrobe on a sofa, on Hollywood Boulevard. The artist wants to denounce the culture of silence that allowed the abuse to go on for so long.
“This year we’ve got Harvey Weinstein clutching an Oscar in his hands, dressed in a bathrobe, which sadly so many people had to experience,” said the artist who calls himself Plastic Jesus.
“So many people, actors and actresses, came to Hollywood to follow a dream and the profile of Harvey Weinstein was so huge that to get alongside him, to actually get to meet Harvey Weinstein, to many it would have been a dream of a lifetime. But sadly some of those who did meet him were abused sexually and raped. So the idea was that people who would come here can see the statue and can actually sit on it and they can see what it would be like to actually sit next to the monster,” he explained.
