(Eagle News) — Wanted: Young policemen “lacking in skills, experience, but with a pure heart.”

These are the kinds of policemen the Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa wants in the new team that will be tasked to go after illegal drug personalities.

Dela Rosa made the statement as the national police prepare for a war against drugs that had been temporarily suspended following the kidnapping and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo in the hands of unscrupulous policemen.

SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel, a member of the PNP’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Group, and several others abducted Jee from his residence in Angeles City, Pampanga on Oct. 18, citing a drug operation.

The group then brought to South Korean to Camp Crame, where he was killed.

Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, PNP spokesperson, said in a media briefing on Thursday that  the young team would be led by “one who knows the job” and whose “character (was) unblemished.”

Asked if the name of any police official had cropped up for the post, Carlos said: “I haven’t seen any list yet.”

“Hopefully, (he or she is) the one that will be approved by the oversight committee..Once approved, crafted and approved by the Chief PNP, once cleared I will have to brief you on (that) data as authorized by the committee and the chief,” he said.

According to him, nonetheless, Dela Rosa said he hoped the drug war, once resumed, would be “bloodless and organized (maayos).”

“But the targets are the ones creating that scenario,” Carlos said.

He said that the policemen would “prepare (themselves) and defend (themselves) when (their) lives are in danger.”
