Watch: Koreans react to N. Korea’s announcement of successful H-bomb test

North Koreans cheered as the news of the hydrogen bomb test by their leader was declared a success over state television.

A video from North Korea showed people watching the news and cheering after the announcement of the successful H-bomb test.

“I am really happy to hear the news of the successful test of a hydrogen bomb for ICBM. I have once again realized that, with the respected Supreme Leader in high esteem, we will certainly gain victory faced with whatever kind of sanctions the enemies impose on our country,” said Son Kang Hyok, student from North Korea.

Ordinary North Koreans usually express only official-sanctioned views when questioned by foreign organizations
South Korean residents meanwhile are worried and alarmed with this latest development.

“Every time the provocations become worse, I think they’re trying to use them as political leverage rather than to start a war,” said Kwon Dae-woon, a resident of Seoul.

“The best thing we can do is to work closely with the US and talk or negotiate with North Korea,” he said.

South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in already said North Korea should be punished in a “strong way.”

“With the international society, we must come up with a strong way to punish them, and make it inevitable for them to give up their nuclear weapons,” he said.

World leaders have condemned this latest activity by North Korea.
