(Eagle News)– The White House announced on Monday that United States President Barack Obama plans to meet President Rodrigo Duterte on September 6.
The talks are expected to center on human rights and security concerns.
“We absolutely expect that the president will raise concerns about some of the recent statements from the president of the Philippines,” White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters when asked about Duterte’s controversial remarks on women, journalists and United States.
According to Rhodes, there were security issues to be covered as well. specifically the territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
The expected talks between Obama and Duterte would take place in ASEAN Summit Laos.
