QUEZON City, Philippines (December 16)- “Never complain about what your parents couldn’t give you. It was probably all they had” — a beautiful quote that best describe parents’ generosity towards their children.
Most teenagers nowadays demand a lot from their parents as they see their other friends having the latest and most high-tech gadgets, most fashionable clothes and places that are good to travel. Never realizing that sometimes, no matter how much the parents want to give everything to their children, it’s just so out of their reach.
I remembered a scenario while my mom was washing the laundry and I approached and told her about my plan of having a trip in Baguio with some friends. I was asking for a budget and she said “I’m sorry but I can’t give you what you’re asking for now, since we don’t have enough money yet.’’ Too bad that I still insisted and told her that it is just a small amount but she once said again that “I want you to do what you want, I want to give everything that you ask for because I want you to be happy, I want you to know that it is also painful for us knowing that we can’t provide you things like that.”
Why I am saying this? It is because I just want to share my little thoughts towards these gifts from God for every child, our parents. A parent’s love for their child has no boundaries. Appreciate what they do for you and never show grievance to them when they can’t give you what you want, because they probably gave you all they could.
From your very first sight in the world your mother was the first one who smiled at you and your father who was cheering you up as they adore how beautiful you are as you came out from your mom’s carriage. They saw your ups and downs. You showed them some bad behavior or even the worst ones but yet, they never left you. They always want what’s best for you.
Let’s save the date, the first Monday of December will be dedicated to the parents for us to give recognition and appreciation for them. This is a good chance to express our love and to thank our parents for all the things that they did for us, if you are not that vocal to your parents during regular days.
Parents’ Day is a day of celebration with the entire family, which is ultimately the outcome of the efforts of the couple many years ago. Our parents are the creator of a miniature outer world of the society. The members comprising of this miniature world are man and woman, becoming the father and mother of what we call family.
This way, the children can at least somehow recoup too their parents’ unending support throughout their life. Children take effort to thank their great parenting, which has shaped up their life in such a beautiful way.
The bringing up of a child in a proper way is really a great responsibility. Parents take up numerous pains in preparing the child into this jungle of life and sacrifice their entire life for nurturing this relationship. Such a selfless service rendered throughout their life for the child, deserves some importance. That is the reason why Parents’ Day is celebrated.
We should practice showing our love to our parents not only during the Parent’s Day but every day. A simple “I love you, Mom and Dad” would mean a lot to them.
To all the Mommy & Daddy, Mama & Papa, Nanay & Tatay out there, we maybe not saying this very often but thank you for everything and we are very proud to have parents like you in our lives.
