A woman tagged in a multi-million peso investment scam has been arrested by the police.

In a press conference on Monday, May 28, Chief Supt. Roel Obusan, Criminal Investigation Detection Group chief, said Margarita Huang was nabbed in a Quezon City condominium complex on Thursday, May 24.

Huang, who also goes by the name Irma Pascual and was facing three warrants of arrest and 12 counts of estafa, was nabbed for allegedly luring hundreds to invest in a lending company in exchange for “high returns” ranging from 5 percent to 15 percent interest every month.

Obusan said Huang, who was out on bail on a similar charge filed against her in 2016, had has cohorts an aide and her family.

He said they issued  423 unclaimable checks amounting to P130.5 million.

“Hindi na nahiya. Kadaming sinirang buhay,” one of the around 30 victims who rushed to Camp Crame upon learning of Huang’s arrest said.

PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde for his part reminded the public to be more discerning in deciding where to invest.

“(Kung) too good to be true, most probably hindi totoo yung investment na yun,” he said.

Charges of estafa will be filed against Huang.
