QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) – Malacañang on Wednesday clarified that only the executive branch and local government units are covered by a memorandum suspending work on Sept. 21.
“The other branches of government where the executive branch has no jurisdiction is not covered by the (memorandum circular),” a statement released by the Office of the Executive Secretary clarified.
The Supreme Court has already suspended work in all courts nationwide on Thursday, which President Rodrigo Duterte declared the “national day of protest.”
The statement added that employees who “will be assigned to report for work on Sept. 21 shall be remunerated through compensatory time-off for hours of work rendered, per Civil Service Commission regulations.”
Earlier, the Palace declared a suspension of classes in public schools and state universities and colleges nationwide.
It said the discretion to suspend classes and work in private schools and private companies was left to these institutions.
