CHICAGO, United States (Reuters) — The world’s first Nutella restaurant, dedicated to the gooey chocolate-hazelnut spread, opened its doors in Chicago on Wednesday (May 31).
The cafe, owned by Italian confectionery group Ferrero, opened its doors at 10am CDT (1500gmt), offering a menu of warm Nutella baguettes, hazelnut and blueberry granola with Nutella and Nutella-topped gelato. Jars of the spread with special ‘Nutella Cafe Chicago’ labels were also available.
Nutella was invented in 1944 by Pietro Ferrero in a patisserie in Alba, near Turin, Italy. The company, which also makes Kinder chocolates and Tic Tac sweets, has remained in family hands since his death in 1949.
