Xiamen plane stuck at NAIA runway removed; no flights still allowed until noon as clearing ops continue

(Eagle News)—The Chinese plane that got stuck at a Ninoy Aquino International Airport runway after it had a “hard landing” has been removed.

In a radio interview on Saturday, Aug. 18, Eric Apolonio, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines spokesperson, said Xiamen Air Flight MF8667 was cleared from runway 6/24 around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

He said it was transferred to the parking bay of the Balabag Aviation Complex.

According to Apolonio, the runway, however, will remain closed to planes until 12 noon as clearing operations  continue.

“Kahit isang nut and bolt na maiwan diyan, very dangerous sa mga papaalis at papadating na eroplano sa runway…,” he said.

He said authorities have already recovered the plane’s blackbox and the voice cockpit recorder for their probe.

The pilot of the plane, meanwhile, has been suspended pending a probe.

All passengers and crew members of the place were safe following the incident on Thursday night.
